How long does it take to install a boiler?

Wondering how long your new boiler may take to be installed is a valid question, as when the job has started, you may experience some disruption to your usual daily activities that involve your hot water supply and central heating.

Unfortunately, there is no one answer or a simple one that can be given. A new boiler installation will depend on a variety of factors, including what boiler you already have, what fuel it runs on, the location of the new boiler, the type of boiler and whether this is staying the same or changing, and any complications that may arise.

Here are some of the most common installations and approximate project times.

Straight boiler replacement

If you plan to have the same boiler replaced, and in the same location, then you are looking at one of the quickest installations, that can take less than 6 hours. It is important to note that this does not account for any issues that may arise. If you are installing the same boiler but in a different location, this will take additional time to adjust the pipework.

Installing a different boiler

If you plan to install a different boiler, this can take anything up to 1-2 days. This is because new connections will need to be made to achieve the desired fit.

Installing the first boiler

If you are installing a boiler and there has never been one on the property before, then you are probably looking at a couple of weeks. This is because adjustments to the home will need to be made, for example, to lift floorboards, build cupboards, lay pipework, install radiators, and much more.

The best way to approach your new boiler installation is to speak with a Gas Safe registered engineer who will be able to advise on your unique situation.
